SERIES & FILMS

SOUND & VISION (2015)
Concept, host, directed and written by Azed Majeed

We pair emerging film directors with independent-spirited musicians. Each episode features a hand-picked band, who donate a song from their catalogue to an on-the-rise filmmaker. Our budding auteur has total freedom to use the song in any way he or she wishes, but faces other limitations. Their deadline is two weeks, the budget is spare ($100), the location chosen in advance (usually an interesting localé or storied neighborhood). The show follows the filmmaker’s journey from conception to completion.

GRRL GUIDES

Producer. concept. writer. director. producer. editor

A Station ID for SexTV: The Channel, I conceived of this commercial spot as a tribute to woman throughout the ages who pushed against any pre-existing notions of femininity. A sort of hall of fame of strong, independent woman. It won a top prize at the advertising awards (Promax/BDA) in New York and is part of the Library of Congress' video archive.

Promax/BDA Gold Winner-Best Station ID for SexTV: The Channel

OPEN HEART, OPEN MIND
Producer. concept. writer. director. producer. editor
An original illustrated animation ID spot for SexTV. A sober look at the contrasting concepts of living in the world as a gay man or woman and the daily barrage of invective that is thrown their way in the name of a "better" society.

We wanted to show how a negative, hate inspiring quote could be met with an equally positive, love inspiring one...and sometimes from an unlikely source.

Winner: Promax/BDA Silver Winner-Best Station ID

METROLINX: GO QUEEN

K. deals with the mounting anxieties of both his pursuer and the pursued with furious writing.

OTHER WORK

SHOW ME YOUR HEART (2014) Written and directed by Azed

The first thing that popped into my head when I heard this song was 'mad scientist' and I started to get some images of Dr. Frankenstein's lab. Then the idea of using my older son, Ishmael as the 'mad scientist' occurred to me. Having a son who looks a lot like you gives you an instant special effect and I was excited to see the transformation from me to him. The whole thing came full circle when I realized this could be a pastiche of childhood 'play acting' by using Ishmael's friends from down the street, Katie and Alex Mills. Especially meaningful to me because they've been friends since they were very little. Throw in some dry ice and you've got a fun way to spend a friday night!
